Are there any standard rules for what goes with what or is it all subjective in relation to whether the person can "pull it off," what looks good on them, and how daring they're willing to get?

If there are no rules, are there at least guidelines? What are some good sources for this?

Some people will say yes... but i think if you're daring and confident, then no, not at all. Fashion is a form of expressing yourself. An outfit can say a lot to the world around you. I mean, use common sense when it comes to fashion, but the rest is up to you.

I know it sounds crazy, but you should watch What Not to Wear on TLC. The first thing everyone should remember is that trendy (in style) does not make clothes fashionable. Some of the most awful styles wear once trendy. Look at the 80's shoulder pads...LOL. By clothes that are classic (not old) in style because they never go out of style. And clothes should flatter your body. Too tight or too big never makes anyone look smaller. They just either show all of the imperfections or make you look a lot bigger than you are. Layer looks are always nice. Pair a nice low cut floral print with a cami underneath and a jean jacket or a cordoroy jacket on top of jeans. Jeans and pants should be worn depending on your body shape. Shorter women should wear skirts at or just below the knee to give the illusion of longer legs. And most all clothes should come in at the natural waist whether you think you are "fat" or not because emphasizing the natural waist makes a person look slimmer and/ or curvier. Remember *curves good....;-). Good luck, and go shopping. Don't worry about trends. Buy what looks good on you and in the style you like...i.e. sassy, sophisticated, classy, sexy.

There are some things that you should know...here are a few of the basic rules about what to wear....and what not to wear:

1) First off, NEVER wear black with blue, unless it's blue jeans with a light blue or black top.

2)Secondly, you need to choose your jeans/pants carefully. Look in the mirror to make sure that they are fitted well in the back and front. Hollister and Abercrombie make very good fitted jeans.

3) In style now: Denim miniskirts with black leggings and ballet flats.

Everything else that makes you look good are your makeup, and your health. If you're naturally healthy, your skin will glow and you will look "radiant". Good luck!

Common sense really and don't wear all one shade of a color that looks wierd. Other than that just wear what suits you best.

Be yourself, fashion is about what you like. I would rather stab myself than be "trendy".
