Makes the rest of us question our carniverous nature... we feel kinda guilty for digesting Bambi's mom...I love meat, the juicy flavor of steaks and ribs... nothing comes closer to bliss than barbequed pork or Thanksgiving turkey..........except maybe a bacon filled salad....nah, I want my turkey.
I have nothing against vegans and vegetarians, more meat for me...

1) basically, people are suspicious of differences, things outside what they perceive as "the norm".
2) if someone identifies themselves with a label like "vegetarian" or "Vegan", it is a bit "in your face" - they are declaring to the world that they are different and, most importantly, that they think that everyone else living "the norm" is not doing it right. That is off-putting for most people.
Imagine you have a friend who's personal preference is that they don't like couches. Fine. That's they're choice. But if they visit your house and declare "I don't believe in couches" and then sit on the floor while your other guests use your furniture normally, that would be a) wierd to you and b) kind of rude to you. What - they think you are bad or something for having couches? They think they know a better way? You get the idea.

Cause most vegetarians and Vegans can be very judgemental of meat eaters.
I've been vegetarian for 4 years and counting and I don't get disapproval from the people around me.
I am Ovo-lacto, but I do know that most Vegetarians that I knew tend to be judgemental towards meat eaters... not the other way around.

Agreed - I like my meat and see it as the natural order of things. If you want all veggies that is fine with me.
It does seem irrational to have a hostile response. Perhaps they feel they are being told that they are doing wrong by eating meat, so they tell the vegans that they are wrong not to.

no...i think personally, there's a tendency for vegetarians and vegans to have an air of pretention...especially younger ones. my best friend's been a vegetarian for 12 years now. he was a bit unbearable about it in college, but now he's totally accepting of others' choices to eat whatever they want.
there are many vegans who look down at people for enjoying meat. i think that's the root of what you're describing. (even though it's totally a generalization and a stupid stereotype)
also, there's an air of anti-conformity to the vegan/vegetarian and that also contributes to the pretention. all in all, it's image-related, but as we grow older and wiser, we see it's just in everyone's best interest to do whatever the hell it is that makes us happy. :)

Maybe because most of them try to shove it in your face. If you want to be a vegetarian, fine. But let me enjoy my carnivorous ways without being preached to. We have one vegan in our office, and I am tired of being told how cruel the meat producers are. I now go out of my way to be seen by her while I'm munching on my medium-rare roast beef sandwich and I don't feel guilty at all. In fact, I think I'll take this opportunity to include her on an email list with my trophy photo from last fall attached. That'll get her tweaked.

because vegans and vegetarians are the first ones to tell you that meat was once a living breathing thing. humans are the top of the food chain and need to stay there. i rather eat than be eaten

People are afraid of everything that's different from what they think is "normal". I don't eat meat because I don't like to consume dead animals, but that is MY way of thinking and I don't pretend to convince anyone to think just like me. I also think its good for my health not to eat meat, but anyone who likes it is ok with me.

I just don't like the militant ones, who get in your face and ridicule you for eating meat or using animal products. Otherwise, if they leave me alone and respect my choices, I'll do the same for them.
