I have a 96 honda civic and the other day I found out that not too many speakers would fit in the front even if the cup is cut out because it is too shallow and the speaker would be too close to the window. I currently have sony explodes that i bought a year and a half ago, but the only problem with these are they dont have very good bass at all and they crackle when the volume is turned up loud. There are a few though that crutchfield says fit. These are Infinity Reference 6012si, Infinity Reference 6022si, Pioneer TS-A1682R, Boston Acoustics S65RC, Blaupunkt Vx652, and JBL Power Series P652S. The only problem with all of these is they have less rms and peak power than what i have now so im not sure if they would make any difference. Anyone have any experience with these or could tell me if i would notice any difference if bought one of these models?

if you want bass, you're better off upgrading the rear speakers or adding a subwoofer. 5 or 6 inch speakers won't do it.

I just bought the Reference 6012si and they are awesome. They sound so clear and have good bass as well. The Pioneers and Blaupunkts wouldnt be worth your money. The other references i have no heard but im sure they sound good too. The Boston S65RC is there bottom of the line speaker. I wouldnt go with that because i have a friend who has Boston SX's which are 2 steps above the S65RC's and i think my infinity 6012si sound better. Hope this helps. Also they will fit in a civic because they are made for a shollow mount car. Hope this helps.

You do not want to waste your time trying to polish a turd into gold. Little speakers will never be able to reproduce bass tones. They only thing that you can do to improve the sound is to only have the little spakers reproduce mid and high range. Now if the speakers your looking at handle less power than the one you have I would not buy them.

The head unit you have will not ever acurately give you the power performance you desire. They were not built that way and for the price it's basically just a device that reads a disc. Save up some case buy some decent amps and crossover and actually drive mid/hi speakers with you mid/hi amp and power the big speakers in the back with the bass amp. There is are seemingly endless ways to hook up a car audio system, you just have to break it down into it basic parts and start to install the wires and devices. Rule of thumb is to only take what the speaker gives you.
