It's simple really. It's a tax deduction. and Republicans being logical people really realise money does more good being given directly to groups that work to help the needy than to let the government take it from you, waste 35-40% in buracracy, then give it to the needy, many of which are not really that needy. If they give to charities they have a say where the money goes and what it's used for. And they have more money than Democrats.
Those Democrats would rather see the government control who gets what when it comes to helping people. And they don't have as much money because they don't know how to make money.

The data presented in the article may be out of date as more religious people voted Democrat in the last election landslide.
Republicans tend to give their money to churches and schools while Dems contribute more to the poor and the environment. In the end, the Rs give more than the Ds which is a total embarassment.

Republicans think charity should be on a personal level.
Democrats think the gov't should force your wallet open, take what they need, keep 90%, and then give the 10% to the groups they deem worthy.

Sorry, but that's just horse-turds. The wealthiest 1% of Americans could house, clothe and feed all the homeless in the country, and not even notice the cost.

because republicans don't believe the government is giving to the charities they want... so they give more to specific charities.. whereas liberals are more inclined to believe that that government has used their money well enough.. and enough of the people that are in need will have need available.. in other words.. republicans try to put band-aids on the situation.. quick fixes of money with private donations.. democrats try to work the system so that no band-aid is needed.

Because we prefer to give our money freely and not have it taken from us. Democrats believe the government should be responsible for our lives.
