A link is simply a connection between two points: This could be a satellite link, a Microwave link, a switch link (connected to the network), etc. Communications systems (which include standard PCs) require a link between it and something else before they can pass information.

Networking is actually sharing information between different computers. This can be between two PCs or something as broad as the Internet. So, the act of passing information and sharing it between systems is networking.
