for 5 months (I'm an ongoing temp secretary) and I still have not received my proper contract. I did get one, but it was not typed on official company headed paper. I have asked my manager time and time again for this (which will only take her all of 2 minutes to print from the computer), but still have not received it. I rang her last week and asked her if I can come and see her to pick it up and also to hand in my weekly timesheet. She said that if she wasn't there, to just put my timesheet under the door. I went over at the agreed time and knocked 3 times. There was no answer. I noticed a keyhole in her door and looked though it. There she was sat there large as life! I felt so rejected and all I could do was just put my weekly timesheet under the door. Why is she being so nasty?

Tulip,

In your working career, you inevitably encounter the ******* boss. The one that has no scruples or morals, sees nopthing wrong with lying, will push to manipulate a situation as far as he/she can get away with it. Thye feel perfectly justified in doing all this as they are the boss and feel they can do whatever they want. They are screwd enough to know that most employees won't pursue legal action because it's often a waste of time.

My advice in this situation is simply find a better manager. Now, I remind people that the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side of the fence, so switch jobs doens't mean the next boss is a dream to work for. But based on what you described about yoru current boss, she's bad enough that I would get another job. Giving someone a proper contract or written job offer is pretty standard practice in today's job market. Even no very good managers do it simply because most employees expect it and will quit a job or not take a job without it. If you have asked repeatedly for a proper contract and 3 times the boss has failed to deliver, time to find another boss. 3 strikes you're out! Also, if you do resign and she THEN provides one, still, it's better to leave. You can't force a manager to do something and it not affect the relationship. I did that once over a promised raise. I went to leave the job but the director relented and gave me the raise. Despite pointing out he promised it and I was justified in getting it, he didn't see it that way and made my life miserable for months until I finally had to leave.

This manager is a bit on the stupid side. She probably things temp secretaries are dime-a-dozen so she strings you along and treats you like trash. If you do leave, she just gets another one. She probably figures you'll go along without the contract because your temp trash and desperate. Just get a better job ditch this *****.

Okay. You definitely sound like you need a new job. I would be looking other places.
I am working through a temp agency as well. But, the people here are great and the environment is great as well. I have actually been here for over 8 months, but I love it here and hope that I will get a full time position soon. I work full-time hours and recently got an opportunity to do even more overtime. I love to work and want to work as much as possible.
Actually, I am actively looking other places for a full-time job. If I find one somewhere else I will take it even though I would rather it be here. I don't know if I would love my work environment quite as well anywhere else.
I have an unlimited contract, which means they could keep me as a temp as long as they wanted to. I have waited for long enough now for a full-time job here, although I have applied for a couple of them here, I did not get them. If something comes up here I will take it, but I can not wait any longer for a permanent job and not be looking other places.
It sounds like you have worked there long enough to be looking other places as well as have enough experience with that job to help you in getting another. Good luck and God Bless!!

Are you working thru an agency? If so get the consultant involved immediately - it is their reputaion on the line if their client behaves in this manner. Alternatively go to the HR / personnel department or your bosses boss and ask that they listen to your treatment. She is treating you unfairly although if she treats all her staff like that you know why she needs temps. Think long and hard about a permanent job there as this could well be her management style which would make it even worse if you were bound by contract to her.

I hope all goes well for you

The answer is that people are nasty and never more so than at work. She likes to play games with you, for whatever reason we will never know. In fact it is her problem not yours, so don't make it yours.

Isn't there an HR department, if so you must ask them to intervene. Otherwise you need to take the matter higher to her boss. If that does not work, then honestly you should think twice about staying at this company

Doccument all communication with this woman, use email or memos. Write asking her about this and make sure you have the original "contract" she gave you.
Keep all her replies and if you don't get anywhere, go to her boss with your evidence.
Don't use the phone or talk to her unless you can make a quick record right after, this is not much on it's own but good back up with the other evidence.

Yes she is, a good manager would answer any knocks to her door, or ask you to wait for a moment is she is on the telephone, I just don't think she is a good, caring manager. If you like you job, stick to it, if you don't try to look for another job. Try not to get stressed, if u can speak to an supervisor or assistant manager ask them if they can assist you.

You need to get your contract sorted out, get it backdated if u can also, as it will effect you holiday entitlement.

tell your manager straight, you either want a contract or to sign a statement of terms and conditions. This is law for paye after 3 months employment. Your local CAB will advise you....I presume you are in the UK

It appears she is lying to you about you getting the contract. She must not have permission to do it.

If they put you permanent, that makes you eligible for benefits.
