I have an existing flourescent light above my sink, wall mounted, and I would like to change it to a swag light.

SUre...turn off the power, remove the fixture...you'll find 2 wires in there...replace with new fixture...bingo

Not a problem but you will probably find that there is no box behind the flu. light and you will need one to install one for the new light. You will need a round old work box and you will need to cut that into the wall if you find that there is a stud right where the box needs to go you will need to get a pancake box which you can put right on the stud it is as thin as the sheetrock. Take the wire and place it inside box and wire to light color to color.
Make sure power is off

Yes, the power is the same coming into the fluorescent housing.

Go for it. They use the same wiring. But you will use more electricity.
