As a professional hedgehog trainer I say yes they can be trained to ward off all kinds of intruders, the post man, the tax man, that annoying neighbour that always wants to borrow something, your ex, but you need to get them young, and preferably genetically engineered.

Yes I'm pretty certain the can be trained to attack, I once had a cat that was very found of of pork scratchings, one day I threw a handful outside the back door , I could hear the crunching while I was in the kitchen, I looked outside to see a big fat hedgehog crunching away at the cats food, the cat was frightened skinny and cowering in a corner, now there must be a way to harness all this hedgehog aggression?

Hedgehogs can be domesticated and used in a number of ways including security. As long as ''you get them young'' it is possible to form a small militia to compat intruders. However unrest is well known to grow amonst groups of hedgehogs where a hierachy exists and you could realise that you yourself are not immune to the occasional outburst from one or more of the group. so yes it is possible -but like everything good- at a risk. be careful.

Put food down along your perimeter to lure them there & they can act like barbed wire for anyone jumping over your fence.
