I have a major appointment, that if I cant get off work I have to quit. I wasnt given enough notice to request it off. What is a really good excuse I can use to call in that morning that I am gauranteed to be allowed the day off without looking like a complete crazy liar?

Why don't you tell the truth? If this appointment is so important that you would quit your job in order to make the appointment then the truth is probably a reasonable excuse.

If it's a medical thing and you don't want everyone you work with to know the details telling your boss "I have a doctor's appointment. I'll need to miss x days/hours on x date." Should suffice. You should apologize for the short notice, and explain that you didn't get much notice either.

If you have to go to court or something your boss should be understanding of that too.

If you're going to a spa/hairdresser/resort that you've been on the waiting list for - well... unless you have an understanding boss that might not go over so well. If this is the case it might be easist to say to your boss "I have a really important appointment. I can't reschedule it. Is there any way I can work something out so I don't leave you short handed, but I can still make this appointment?" - Skipping the details might be best.

If you work in an office setting it should be easier for you to offer to make up the hours or take the time off without pay.

If you work in a retail setting, or one where not everybody works at once you have the option of trying to trade shifts. Maybe a coworker will cover for you. (Remember that you'll be asking a big favor, so be really polite when asking. Approach it as such: "Would you please help me out? I have this thing, and I won't be able to work at the time I'm sceduled to. Would you be willing to cover that shift for me? I'll be happy to trade shifts or give you the hours, I'll even treat you to lunch/coffee/ice cream/etc, because I really appreciate your covering for me - name your terms (within reason.)")

If you don't want to be honest (and I'm telling you that's the best thing - you can't "get caught" if you aren't being sneaky) - you could always try calling in sick. Food poisoning has a fast onset, is a miserable thing to deal with and usually clears up pretty quickly (24 hours or so).

You don't want to sound like a liar, but you want a good lie. That's quite ridiculous.

If your appointment is a legitimate and fair one, your employer will understand. There should be no reason to lie. If your company is totally unreasonable, given your reasonable circumstances, you need to ditch the employer and find a decent one.

If you're cheating your employer by attending this appointment, I have no advice for you.

The preparations that you've made on your son.......are they able to take care of him on an emergency foundation? Are there any family members which could step in to help out with him and each little thing because of the urgency of the project? because of your very last get entry to - the soreness you're in and shortage of ability to eat, sounds like you ought to head to the emergency room. yet another theory could be to the contact the medical institution administration, there could be some type of affected man or woman representative which could act on your behalf. reliable luck and God Bless.

How about......gasp!!!.....the truth! Just call and say "I have a very important medical/dental/legal appointment I really HAVE TO be at. It just came up yesterday, not in time to ask for the day off. I'll be in when I'm done" (or "I'll see you tomorrow").
