I just checked my Hard Drive memory capacity since it kept saying that i didn't have enough memory when i tried downloading something. When i check my HDD it says i have used 27GBs and i have 3 GBs left. I know my HDD is 40GBs.
I don't know if the reformatting has to do with this but can someone answer my question why my HDD suddenly lost 10 GB?

Have you downloaded anything recently? Like a P2P sahring program or other programs recently if so try removing those programs and you should get the space back rather quickly.

ok if something says that you don't have enough memory it is because you don't have enough RAM(Memory). To check this right click on My Computer and go to Properties. There at the bottom of the screen it should say how much you have. Then compare that to what the requirements are for the program. Usually 3 gbs of hard drive space is enough for a high majority of software. So as per you losing hard drive space, there could be plenty of reasons for it. You may have a bunch of files, programs etc., that you don't use that are using up the space. So see what you don't need anymore and get rid of them.

I know this might sound stupid, but... have you ever deleted the temp files?
Yes formating reduces the available space in a HD, but that happens by only a couple of megas at a time. I'd take hundreds of formatings in order to do that. So I don't think that's the problem.
Please feel free to contact me, I'll gladly try to help you out.
Good Luck,

Not all harddrive get the full amount of space as stated.
You used part of the harddrive for Windows operation system which is depends. Windows XP take about 1.5gig for harddrive space.
I would uninstall any program that you don't regularly used.
Far as the partition, do you get message whenever you start up your computer of choosing which operation system to boot through?

May be like mine, a Gateway, and have a partition for holding recovery data so you can do a system restore without a disc.
D: Recovery
Look for more than one hard drive.
If you get really brave you can delete the partition using a LiveCD of this.

Go to Administative tools, then disk management, and you can see if you can resize the disk. This will work under XP Pro
