I was wondering if my unborn baby boy can hear me talking right now. I'm 22 weeks pregnant. He kicks all the time. Also, can he hear outside noises at this stage?

Everything I've read says that Around week 20 the baby can start to hear things. Not distinguish voices, but hear noises.

"Your baby can hear sounds now, and it will cover its ears with its hands if a loud sound is made near you or "jump" if it is startled." - that is week 20

I've read that by 5 months the baby can start hearing noises outside the womb. Voices and music will sound muffled to the baby but they can hear noise. Loud noises may even startle the baby. I'm 26 weeks but I started noticing about a month ago that the baby seems to move more when I'm in the car singing. Maybe it's stimulated by the noise. From what I remember reading the baby can hear voice tones and that will help it to recognize it's parents voices at birth. That may help to soothe the baby and calm it after it's born when it hears your voice. You can learn more about fetal developmnet at www.babycenter.com or www.pregnancy.org both have excellent descriptions of development at every weekly stage.

The baby is developing its hearing and can hear LOUD noises outside the womb which may startle them. Now is about the time they can hear everything you say. Sing to it and read to it. It is a good way to bond with baby. And in the next 2 weeks or so Daddy can talk and read to the baby, too!!!

Yes, You may be able to feel him kick or jump at sudden loud noises. Go to www.baby-gaga.com and get the pregnancy ticker. Every day of your pregnancy, it will tell you how your baby is developing and what he will be doing.
