OOOOOH I have a great idea. Go as a Cavalier. Perfect because you don't have to do much dressing up. The outfit will say a thousand words. Simple black dress pants and a cavalier shirt. Like this one:

If you're brave then go as a French maid!! I believe that if you search for French maid online, you will actually find more pictures and costumes aimed at men than for women!

Without going to a lot of expense you could easily go as the guillotine executioner. Black clothes, a bit of scraggy black cloth round your neck as a kerchief and a black scarf tied over your hair and head with slits for the eyes. Otherwise you can go to one of the fancy dress establishments and see what they have on offer.
