hey, our internet connection isn't working on my home computer, a compaq S6300NX, so we decided we would do a full system recovery. well, we put the disks in, booted from them, and we selected full recovery, and then as it was saying preparing recovery partition, it froze, and the bar wouldn't move, so my mom was impatient and held the power button, tried it again, and it goes about half way on the bar, then says hard drive write error, press any key. so i did, then it reboots and does it again. It is runnin XP SP2, and we replaced the HD a couple months ago. could that be the problem?

we tried everything to get the internet working. and we tried system restore, so we decided to back up everything, and try a system recovery, we didn't figure it would hurt anything. we tried reformatting the hard drive with the recovery. but it wouldn't work. the HD is a Seagate Barracuda 120 GB, the HD that came with the PC screwed up, and we bought a new one. and did recovery on it, to install XP, and it worked fine.

Ok the same thing kind of happened to me. You are going to need to email the technicians at compaq.com and tell them you problem, ask if they can send you a program that you can put on a floppy so you can clear you hard drive. Thats what i did and it worked. If you need anymore help just email me. And to let you no i have a compaq and your going to have so many more problems with it.

I think you made an error in the way you attempted to trouble shoot your non-working internet connection. You may have caused more damage than good. Let see...

1. I would only use the system recovery feature if my windows operating system was not working.

2. Usually when you by a PC from some of these manufacturers they partion a small portion of the harddrive for installation files of your Operating System. So when you got rid of the old hard drive so went your recovery files. So your system is freezing up because it can not find the files it needs.

Solution: If your system boots without any error messages. Then you need to proceed to installing the correct drivers for your internet connection. If your using dial-up then you must install the correct drivers for your modem. If you are using High Speed internet via network card then you must make sure those drivers are installed correctly. Then try your internet connection again. If you are still having problems let me know.

Bad thing to push power in the middle. your computer now is just very confuse between the two timeline.

Don't by impatient with computer. sometime time bar just stop but not the system.

Now you computer is just mess up. you need to format et reinstall everything. insert your windows xp disk on the start make NTFS Slow Format.

Good Luck!

i would'nt do a recovery just because your internet isn't working. that could be the internet companies fault, not your computers. can you still boot your computer into xp? or did the recovery do enough damage to erase everything? what kind of internet connection do you have? i need more information to figure out what is going on for sure. feel free to e-mail me. good luck!

From what you said, the problem is likely to be the hard drive. Did you reformat it? Try that before replacing it, otherwise, that hard drive should be under warranty.
