It is sad that affirmative action still is relevant.

But racism does exist and makes affirmative action necessary!

If a white man and a black man---with the same qualifications--- apply at a firm of predominately white employees---without affirmative action ---it doesn't take a genius to know that the white man would 97% of the time get the job!

Of course it is racist. Affirmative action is the only example of what the left calls institutional racism in America. What affirmative action does however is allow unelected elitists the power to create a racial spoils systems that rewards those they deem worthy at the expense of those with merit. Notice affirmative action excludes Asians, Jews, and poor whites, it concentrates it's efforts on middles and upper class blacks and white women, which allows it to build a caste of followers for a liberal agenda. Affirmative action also allows it's supporters to claim racism even if none is present by stating that the very institutions in America are racist. This calls for a breaking down or dismantling of those institutions needed to continue a free market economy with a rule of law and a Representative government that has made America the envy of the world

I don't think it is racist. When affirmative action was created it was meant to address very real inequities present in the workforce at the time. I don't know if these issues are as present or relevant today. However, I can't really say for sure. The very fact that I am unsure leads me to believe that maybe it is still necessary. I don't think we need a quota system, but I do believe that we need a reporting system for potential abuses in this area because unfortunately racism and misogyny do still exist

Racism still exists. People will always have some biases. But I think race has been reduced to the "noise" level. I'm sure I've gotten jobs because the interviewer liked my tie or shoes better than the tie worn by the other final candidate or some other meaningless factor. I think race has been reduced to this level, and to the extent there's any institutional bias, institutions are tripping over themselves to give the minority the edge.

I'm ok with private institutions doing this - it's their money.

But it IS racist, there is no "need" for it and the Constitution says that the government cannot practice it.

It is. It provides added assistance to those of one race over another race. There's not one person born in 1990 that can tell me they grew up in a society with unequal opportunity. You will still run into racism, but you don't need another 10 points on you SAT. None of your peers is responsible for racism that occurred in the past.

White people have their own forms of affirmative action, and don't pretend that they don't. There are labor unions that are like 98% white, and it doesn't happen that way by accident.
Why is it that every unemployable white dude thinks that he would be king of the world if it wasn't for affirmative action?

If it actually leveled a playing field it wouldn't be racism.

Unfortunately it tips the playing field in the favor of minorities resulting in discrimination of the majority.

This serves only to irritate racial relations and to perpetuate the problem of racism.

I am white. A black peer of mine calls it affirmative "black"tion. It's definitely racism.

You know that this is an American solution, right? It doesn't exist in Canada or other countries. So maybe you need to look at the state of the US, and ask yourself why it has to exist there...
