They have to work directly under the supervision of an MD. They cannot have a private practice. Many do seem to work on their own but trust me there is a doc repsonible for everything they do.

I agree with the above post. A Nurse Practictioner always has to work under a Doctor. Legally, they can't prescribe medicine, either. The Doctor signs the prescriptions beforehand then the N.P. can fill it the medicine.
