Traditions usually are effective as a binding force in the society or family and therefore should not be dismissed lightly. No tradition comes into force without an original logic. If that logic is known and it can be seen that the current situation has so changed that the original logic no longer holds water, then in such cases the tradition should be suitably changed to fit the present conditions or even discarded. Similarly if the tradition is causing practical problems in the current situation and its logic is forgotten and buried in the past, then it should naturally meet its end.
As the social conditions change, traditions too evolve and change, albeit at a slower pace which is good since it helps psychological moderation of the changes occurring in the society.

It depends upon the tradition really. Like cutting a family Christmas tree say, where they did it with a hand saw and drug it back by hand on a sled years ago. Well yeah, keep the tradition, but you can use a chainsaw and a 4wheeler to bring it back to the house. On the other hand, some traditions do become outdated due to technology, such as getting together to can vegtables for the entire family once a year. The cost of buying frozen or canned has made it economically questionable, and nobody gets burned by steam and the kitchen isn't 1000*F.

Doing things only for the sake of tradition is unwise because
the world changes constantly. Your actions must be based
on your current appraisal of the situation. Tradition is based on
the experience of countless generations and therefore invaluable.
You should resort to tradition when you are in doubt.

We have things we do for traditions sake all the time....... Funerals, weddings, proposals, birthdays, christmas, easter, getting drunk on St. patrick's Day.....pretty much any holiday........ I think in some ways tradition is good....It can also be good to start new traditions..... We are creatures of habit like it or not........

If it hurts no one, people enjoy it, and it does not fly in the face of science and knowledge, I have no problem with it.

I think it's stupid. A stupid thing doesn't become good just because it's been done for ages.
