In Fantasy Baseball - if there is a top 10 hitter available take them first, pitching is weak in general especially for starters. remember.. you can still win era/whip/Sv/ with relief pitching and theres always 12-15 game winners available after the draft. The key to winning your league is to win in 4-5 catagories and finish in the mid levels for the rest. Besides theres like 3 pitchers worthy of a first round pick and if your picking 1-3 you have to wait unitl you turn comes around to snag a big bat which by then they are gone. ie.. lets say there are 12 teams, you pick 1st, you take Santana, you don't pick again for 24 picks. It goes 1-12 , then 12-1. Big bats are much more important.

In most cases Hitting should go first. Because of injuries pitching is more unpredictable. Also many fine pitchers like Bedard, Olsen, Escobar Burnett Penny And Snell can generally be had in the later rounds of the draft. Typically I take hitters with my first four picks, then a closer then another bat or two before taking my first starting pitcher and second closer. Except for one or two poasitions, I usually have all my batters except my catcher and any bench spots in the first 11 or 12 rounds. Then I concentrate on finding solid pitching late. Closers are more acarce than SP so I pay a little more attention to them. Also with SP in a 5X5 (or more categories) I pay the least attention to Wins among the pitching categories. Look for a solid WHIP and good K to IP rate first. Then ERA then wins are the ways I evaluate a pitcher. That way you'll usually have great hitting and MUCH better than OK pitching barring injuries. You just won't have Santana or any of the big names.

If this is for fantasy baseball-Go for hitting first then pitching. There are always pitchers that emerge during the year but, hitters dont emerge as much. There are also alot more good pitchers than hitters.

I would take the great pitchers they are consistent, hitters go in slumps, and you do have to remember its a long season and the great pitchers stay that way for a reason, your hit leaders, home run leaders change often though out the year, look back at previous years and see the changes.

Always go after hitting first. It is have been documented that majority of hitting value is taken within during the draft, while a lot of the pitching value comes from the waiver wire during the season. The primarily applies to starting pitching. High quality closers should be taken fairly early in drafts since there is usually only one closer per team and about 10 out of the 30 of them guaranteed to have good season. In summary, draft hitters early and often, mix in a few closers early on, and look for good values for starting pitching but don't feel like you have to get them early.

Why not choose the best player available when its your turn to draft. Don't pass up a good hitter for a somewhat good pitcher just because some website say's pitchers first.

Hitting. Pitchers are a dime a dozen and are always more injury prone than hitters. New aces turn up every year, while others sink. Most hitters stay consistant, whether its in a good or bad way.

If youre in fantasy baseball, I pick hitters first. In real baseball, starting pitchers are more in demand. There is simply not enough aces for every team.

Your really got to go for the best player available. Usually go for hitters for the first 3 rounds or so. Unless someone lights out is there and and level of hitters has dropped. Don't just go for HR hitters though, get someone who steals and will get you on base often.
