when I joined he put extra attention that everyone was talking. He continued to be nice to me and when I went on holiday I got him a present and he got me one in return. IOne day as he drove me home ...we talked about my leave and he mentioned that I should not get any present this time and asked him why...he said he felt uncomfortable unless I get something simple.

Sounds like he wants just a work relationship. If you stick to your job, and don't do the little extra things for him, if he is interested...he will approch you. He already knows how you feel.
He is your boss, do you job, leave it in his court.

Ask him to quadruple your salary. He will be so mad at your audacity that his true colours will come out and you'll hate him instead

if he is married...DEFINETELY DO NOT SHOW your feelings at all.
Try to occupy yourself with work and don't think about him all the time. He hired you to work and not to start a romantic relationship....
