I am moving in a couple of months, and am very worried about making new friends, as i wont know anyone, i am moving to go to uni. Where i live at the moment, i know everyone around me as i have lived here nearly all my life.
Not too sure if i will make friends at uni, as i am going to be a mature student (age 27), and also have 2 kids ages 2 and 7 and am worried about them making friends.
Anyone got any ideas for us please?

I am uni, I am 23 MY good good friends at uni are 35 and 50 THEY have families and grandchildren blaaah blaah blaah. I am your typical 20something year old. I like going out shopping drinking etc BUT that does not mean anything WE ARE FRIENDS WITH DIFFERENT INTERENTS AND THAT DOESNT SEEM TO MATTER BECAUSE WE HAVE LOADS OF OTHER SIMILLARITIES. SO..why would anyone NOT want you to be their friend...I think it will be easier than you actually think- because I do think you will have a lot to offer as a friend to lots of people you will come accross!!!! Good luck!!

Oh, isn't the internet wonderful?? I moved to a new state a little over a year ago and had the same problem. I joined a mom's group. Most big towns have at least one. You should be able to find one online. If not, when you get there, ask your children's new peditrician if they know of such groups. The play groups are a great way for both you and your kids make new friends. Good luck!!

I'm fairly certain you will be surprised at yourself - although you will be older than most people on your course, you'll still form bonds and make friends. =)
As for your kids - especially your two-year-old, who is most likely too young to be shy for very long! - they are so young that they will make friends really easily. So don't worry!
Good luck and enjoy uni - everyone I know who's been to uni says they were the best years of their life. Just because you'll be a bit older than some of the other students doesn't mean that statement isn't true for you too! =)

Surely one of the easiest ways will be through your kids - at their school and nursery etc.? Secondly, it will be at University. My best friend has recently returned part-time as a mature student (aged 34) and although she is older than most in her classes, she is getting on with them. The other options are to join classes - perhaps keep fit or something similar. Good luck.

I think you won't have much difficulty making friends at school. That's where I have made several friends in the last 8 yeras (and I am an older student than you). If you are outgoing enough, you shouldn't have much difficulty. Plus with one of your kids being school age, get involved with their school activities and you may meet and make friends with other parents.

Look for a book club to join, at a book store, library or advertised or start your own. When I moved to a new place this was a great way I found to make friends.
