well they are going to ask for a urine sample so be sure that you have to pee when you get there. you will be wieghed and you will get your blood pressure tested. they might do a pelvic exam on you. they did that for me all three time i was pregnant on the first appt. don't worry its all for a good reason. you probally won't get the heartbeat yet the baby may be too small for that yet. but the second appt you should be able to hear that. good luck and congrats on the baby. your in for a world of fun.

Don't be nervous. It's nothing to be scared about. The first appointment will be just the first of many. I'm 26 weeks now and it's been quite routine when I go. The first appointment is much like a regular gynecological appointment. They will check you for STD's and do an HIV and PAP test. Just the usual swabs. They will probably also do an internal exam to check the size and position of your uterus. Then they'll do a routine breast exam. You'll also need to do a urine sample to check for protein, sugar, and bacteria in the urine. They may also have you go for a routine blood test to determine your resistance to certain diseases like measles, mumps, reubella, toxoplasmosis, etc. Your doctor may also have a blood check done to determine the level of HCG in your blood. HCG is the hormone released into your body by the growing baby. They will also check your weight, and blood pressure. You will also give the doctor a full family history and they will discuss with you any areas of concern. Be sure to mention to your doctor any unusual symptoms you are having. Your doctor may or may not send you for an ultrasound to determine how far along you are. If you don't go for one now, they will definitely send you for one later in the pregnancy.
After that, your doctor visits will just consist of a urine sample, weight and blood pressure check, fetal heartbeat (around the 12 week mark) and measurement of the position and size of the uterus.

At my first OB/GYN appointment, they pinpointed the due date, weighed me, measured my abdomen, took my blood pressure, recorded my family & the father's family health history...then scheduled me for my next of many appointments! Which included appointments every month, to every two weeks, to every week as I got later in my pregnancies...you will have 1 - 2 ultrasound appointments, 2 bloodwork appointments (glucose levels with a sweet drink and a CBC complete blood count). Primarily your appointments will all consist of weight & blood pressure checks, heartbeat check after 9 weeks and any questions you may have...keep a list going at home, it is easier that trying to remember them when you are nervous. GOOD LUCK>>>
