I've seen the previews, but I still have no idea what it's about. Why does he have her chained up?

This is the synopsis from the web site. I guess my take on the previews was wrong.
A God-fearing bluesman (Jackson) takes to a wild young woman (Ricci) who, as a victim of childhood sexual abuse, looks everywhere for love, never quite finding it.
A heres a review from someone who's seen it:
It tells the story of an older man and young woman who are both going through rough times and are able to reach out to one another.

Shes buck wild and he finds her in the street in front of his house and hes going to show her the error of her ways..........havent seen it yet but it looks like it will be good

it looks like its about a girl who is a prostitute and a guy (samuel jackson) finds her passed out on the ground and takes her in to help her get better.
