Acidity is when the pH level falls to a low level (1-6).

Alkalinity is when it goes up (8-14).

The neutral pH is 7 (that's water)

pH is an indirect way of measuring the amount of hydrogen ions (H+) are present in the solution.

pH = - log [concentration of H+ in solution]

There are two definitions used to explain acids and bases. One defines an acid as a proton donor and a base as a proton accepter. The other defines acid as an elctron pair acceptor and a base as an electron pair donor. Either way they are measured on a scale from 1-14, with the pH actually being minus the log of the hydriogen ion concentration.

Acidity if a base is the number of hudroxide ions present in that base while basicity or alklinity of the acid is the number of hydrogen ions present in that acid.
