i was looking at these earrings i would like to buy and in the description it said "set in 18k gold" are these earrings real gold?

there wasnt a stone in the earring thats what made it sound weird. i think they're called love knots.

Means they are only partly pure gold. some times they overlay other metals over gold. Sometimes the post is the only true gold.

Gold comes in several karat levels, that's what the "k" stands for--10k is less gold but a little stronger, 14k is what most good jewelry is made of, and 18k is the top of the line. The higher the number, the more gold is in the piece. Solid gold would be 24k but would be too soft to wear, so it's mixed with an alloy to make it stronger. So 18k is a little softer but also very beautiful. You will notice it has a more yellow color than 14k jewelry.
