I enjoy the new Battlestar Galactica series quite a bit. And rumors of last nights ep "Maelstrom" had been circulating for quite some time. If you haven't seen the episode read no further. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace has been a interesting character from the beginning Katee Sackhof has done a execellant job portraying the troubled and complex viper pilot. But apparantly the shows writers and producers wanted to shake things up and killed Starbuck off. Am I the only one last night who felt her death was pointless? Yes she was troubled and had a "secret" fear of death but does that mean she had to kill herself for no other reason then to prove in the end she was not afraid to die?! Am I the only one who hoped to see more meaning in her untimely demise? Ok, so her mother abused her and messed her daughter up as a result. What was Kara's ultimate destiny other then to fly herself to peices on some no name planet and remove Galactica's best viper driver from the line up?

I was completely caught off guard by what happened last night! You're not the only one who wants to see if there was actually some point to killing off her character and not just going for the shock value! Based on what I was seeing in some of the older interviews, I'm getting the impression that she might be reappearing next season somehow.
