-Harau Valley has the most beautiful scenic view. Guides can bring you there on the way from Bukit Tinggi to Lake Maninjau. That area is also known for trekking and mountaineering. There is also a waterfall further up that valley. The sad thing is that these places are not taken care off well; there is quite a bit of littering left by visitors and likely the residents there. Its like the smoky mountains of Asia

- Padang beach (also known as Taplau or Tapi Lauik in the local lingo) is the most accessible beach area in this coastal city. Due to its close location to the harbour, the water is quite murky here and not really suiatable for swiming. However, the beach area is surrounded by trees and hills that make it shady and windy, just nice for people to hang around to enjoy the view. Padang beach is also well-known for its beautiful sunset as well as a number of cafes and road side food stalls along the beach.

- Danau Singkarak is actually an enormous crater lake, situated between Padang and Bukittinggi. You can swim in the lake if you like to.

Padang is a common transit point for surfers travelling to Batu Islands and Mentawai Islands, and for tourists visiting the West Sumatran highlands. Padang beach (known as Taplau or Tapi Lauik) which located from Samudra Street until Puruih, is well-known for its beautiful sunset and hundreds of food stalls. Bungus bay, to the south of Padang, is suitable for swimming and boating.

Adityawarman Museum specializes in the history and culture of the local Minangkabau ethic group, and the main exhibits are housed within a Rumah Gadang style building.
