It's grey, or grey-brown. Against the dark sky, it is much brighter than the backround and so appears white. If you were standing on the moon in the sunlight, the surface around you would be a dark grey, more or less like a weathered blacktop road.

It is the reflection of Sunlight on the face of the Moon. The Moon is a basalt or greyish-brown color with traces of iron oxide red.
