Johnny Cash had over 100 hit songs during the '50s and '60s. His popularity faded at times during the 70's and 80's, but he enjoyed a resurgence of his songs late in his career that attracted listeners of all ages and backgrounds.
Johnny Cash had a rebellious attitude and the simple arrangements of his songs are similiar with rock songs. The stories his songs told and the deep sense of history his music conveyed forever kept "The Man In Black" tied to country. He is known for his distinctive baritone voice and sparse percussive guitar. Johnny Cash is a legend who's image and music will live on in popular culture for a very long time.
My favorite Johnny Cash songs are Ring of Fire, I Walk the Line
and Folsom Prison Blues.

I loved Johmmy Cash-I don't believe people realized the wonderfilled talents this guy ha d . The last song he wrote When The Man Comes Around is the best for me.I read that Johnny spent more time on this song than any he had ever written. He relates this song to the Book of Revelations. He wrote 3-dozen pages of lyrics before he painstakingly got it down to the final cut. The inspiration came from a dream he had, about a book he had purchased called Dreaming of the Queen. He says alot leading up to this but it's funny to me, because he says he walks up to the Queen and she says to him "JohnnyCash" you look like a thorn tree in a whirlwind- he said he awoke from the dream and knew it was from some familar book in the Bible and sure enough it came from Job. This was August 12,2002- June Carter Cash was the Best thing that ever happended to him and the last C.D. he made with the help of David Ferguson was the best thing he could have done. It turned out great to me.Also I want to add that the song "Hurt" was not written by Johnny- it is a well know rock song written by (Trent Reznol) a great idea-especially because it was so close to his meeting June Carter Cash on the other side and let me tell you at the end he spoke highly of that day coming. He couldn't wait, without her he was lost- Oh! my eyes are tearing!!Two Great Lovers!! He died a Legend and will always be to Country Music!!

"Give My Love to Rose" Such a great song. You can just imagine all that is happening as the narrator is interacting with the man by the railroad tracks. Very sad and haunting.

He is one of the greatest. He is in both the country and rock and roll hall of fame. I like a lot of his songs but my favorite would have to be "Folsom Prison Blues". My favorite song that he sang but didn't write is "Bird On A Wire" with the live orchestra.

He was a great musician, if a somewhat flawed man(who isn't?) and Phoenix played him very well.

One piece at a time. Its about him working in a cadillac factory and he steals a part everyday in his lunchbox and builds his own caddy
