There are many types of lawyers, and regardless of what people's opinions may be their job is not to "find the guilty innocent" but to follow the laws of our country - which may be criminal, civil, contractual, etc.

Findlaw is a great place to start or Marindale-Hubbell.

There are many different types of lawyers. Here are a few:

--Litigators (prepare cases for trial);
--Trial Attorneys (argue cases in court);
--Transactional Attorneys (negotiate/review/draft contracts and paperwork);
--Neutrals (judges, arbitrators, & mediators who help resolve cases);

These types of attorneys typically practice in one or more of the following settings:

--State Court;
--Federal Court;
--Corporate/Big Business;
--Small business/individual;
--Governmental agencies;

Further, some attorneys focus their practice to one or more the following subject areas:

Antitrust, estate planning, bankruptcy, immigration, insurance defense, personal injury, landlord tenant, corporate/securities, entertainment, sports, family, intellectual property, land use, environmental, internet, administrative, labor/employment, criminal and real estate law.

So you could be an antitrust trial lawyer who would only argue cases in federal court, or you could be a family law attorney for a low-cost legal aid foundation who helps families with adoptions. You can be a specialized or as general as you want.

I hope good ones. Most of the time, not.

What can I say, study hard, find a specialty, and don't do frivolous lawsuits.
