I finished my last a-level module in Jan (I was unsure how my grades would go due to time off) So decided to take a year out before uni, they went alot better than expected & I am starting my degree in september. Until then I need a job, been looking for a month, lots of interviews but as soon as I mention only being able to stay 6 months they run a mile. I need to find something more temporary, perhaps js could help me with that but would I be entitled to the allowance when I'm going on to higher ed? I hate the thought of benefits but it's last resort time unfortunately

Yes you can apply for and receive job seekers until you start uni!! But as soon as you start uni or find a job (whatever comes first) you have to inform them that you no longer need to receive jobseekers allowance!

Also if you are looking for a job, don't tell them that you can only commit until September. Because as you have experienced companies do not want to employ someone who is going to leave in the near future. If you are applying for retail or bar jobs, etc (typical student jobs) then fair enough tell them that you are starting uni in September and that you can work full-time up until then, and then would like to become part-time once uni starts (even if you don't intend on staying on once uni starts).

It's unlikely you would get JSA as you are going to be a full time student soon. Have you considered temping?
