To my surprise, my parents have decided to go to our wedding reception in the Philippines, which is to be held at Palmas Del Mar in Bacolod, ****** Occ. They're thinking of taking their granddaughters with them (my nieces, 5 and 7 years old). My parents haven't even visited Asia, let alone taken young kids with them on their own! I know they'll be fine with us in Bacolod, as I've seen it for themselves. But there's not enough to occupy them for more than a week.

So after spending a week with us in Bacolod, they want to go out and about. I don't think they'll want long or complicated trips to Boracay, for example. So can anybody suggest a nice family-oriented area either on ****** or within one flight/ferry trip of ******? Things that they can see or do.

Thanks.

Congradulations on your wedding and Palmas is an excellant place to have a wedding and reception. Been there many times and always stay there when visiting friends/family there in Bacolod.

I can think of a few places acessable from Iloilo that might be of interest. It's only a 1 hour fast ferry ride on the Weesam express from Bacolod at the reclamation area.

There is a nice family orientated beach resort over on Guimeras Island (Villia Igang) behind John B. Lacson College.
It has a coral cave, nature trails, a rowboat lake and a pumpboat for island hopping to turtle island (place where sea turtles breed) and going through some of the coral caves around the island. The sand is gold colored and there are lots of tropical fish in the water there. The prices are very reasonable, it's native but nice. Has fan rooms on the beach or regular aircon rooms. Food is native and good. Don't waste your time looking for a website. I found the place through a tricle driver on an exploration trip to Guimeras. Stayed there many times and highly recommend it.

To get there you need to take a cab to the Ortis st. landind (10 min) and take a ferry across to Jordan Wharf (P14 per person and about 15 min). From there go to the back and hire one of the private jeepneys (P250) on way to the resort and 30 min.

In Guibal Iloilo : 40 min from downtown Iloilo. Best way to go is by private rental Van.

Garinfarm in Guimbal Iloilo. It's a resort and farm. Has lots of animals and is like a kiddie zoo park and nice resturant on premisis. Also sells fresh real cows milk and farm fresh produce.
Near many nice Beach resorts.

Marbuena Island beach resort in Ajuuy Iloilo. (Aprox 2 hours by private Van)

It's a private island resort 3 km off the coast. Family orientated resort with nature trails, kiddie pool and cabins right on the water.
Has the beautiful white sand and crystal bule water of Boracay for a fraction of the cost and no hawkers allowed. Fresh right out of the water seafood. Stunnning meticulously cared for grounds and beautiful sunsets. The resort staff is very friendly and couteous. Another place you won't find on a website.

There is a hige variey of nice resturants here offering everything from German, Thai, Japanese, American, chinese and the list goes on. Fell free to write me offlist if you'd like to know more about Iloilo and the surrounding area.

Paul in Iloilo
