I think that the term communism - which is at it's heart not dissimilar to socialist - has too many bad connotations associated with it to ever go mainstream in the West, thanks to the capitalist media doing a real hatchet job on it.

The principles of communism are not outdated, but the image is. As with everything in a world of consumerism, the only way to sell it is to give it a makeover, maybe call it the 'equality movement' instead.

As to youth - youth will always be attracted to what is radical and outside the system - especially if they are not part of it (i.e. born rich). I guarantee you if we lived in a communist utopia, youth would be attracted to fascism - communism's arch enemy as a political system.

Communism cannot work because it goes totally against human nature. It's not so much outdated as unrealistic.

The reason more young people get attracted to is it because (sorry if this offends anyone, but it's true) they don't understand the world yet.

It isnt outdated, it just fell into a bad spell following the collapse of the deformed workers states in the former Soviet block in thearly 1990's. Left wing politics are now on the up again with Socialist governments forming with democratic support in Venezuala and Nicaragua and other latin American countries. With the massive inequalities in Capitalist countries and the constant levels of unemployment there Communism is again having an appeal worldwide. There is still a stigma attached to Communism due to the human rights abuses and the economic stagnation that occured in the deformed workers states but there are those who believe that a planned Communist economy merged with Democratic government will work. Communism is certaintly not dead theory and I believe is on the rise again

Im tired of scrounging a living and seeing the people around me fighting to do the same. The rich are richer than ever and dont do a damn thing with their money. 25,000$ here, 25,000$ to cancer research. To the filthy rich this is pocket change and just as significant as a bumb giving his friend 25 cents to get a cigarrette. Disparity between the rich and poor is retarded. What makes any human being more deserving of a billion dollars when all they do with it is blow it on luxury. For the past couple of decades I've watched my grandparents and my parents and my freinds parents fight to keep me and their kids above the poverty line doing more work than Hollywood combined. My dad risks his life for my country and gets paid less than the leeches that gain from his demise. Wake up and smell the coffee. How can you watch this without desiring something better. Socialism is inevitable.

It is outdated. Youths are attracted only one part of their side - violence. They got a habit of making protest against everything and secretly they will accept it. They are not communists now - real communalists.
