ok the brakes are easy enough and a good tip to get your welding costs down would be to get a mobile mechanic who advertises in your local paper you may find it will only cost around 150 as they don't have the same overheads as a garage. Good luck

Hi

Your rear brakes need a full service mate, but you don't say what car or whether its discs or drums. the labour alone will be an hour and a half to 2 hours for the rear brake overhaul.

The spring mount will need welding and will cost somewhere in the region of about £70 or thereabouts.

You could be looking at around the £200 mark for the whole lot at a guess, but like I say, you give nowhere near enough info.

Cheers

Geordie

All of the brake errors you've listed are down to worn rear pads or shoes. £30 (without labour) is about average for a set of pads. The worrying one is the suspension. This sounds like you will need a plate welded onto the car bodywork where the suspension unit connects with the car body, assuming it's possible and there is not too much corrosion. At a friendly garage I would guestimate £250 (+VAT of course) the lot, but brace yourself for more. Or call it a day and put the money towards a newer car.

If it's over 10 years old - scrap it and buy another - not worth repairing

At the very minimum you are looking at complete rear brake replacement - possibly hand brake cables as well - removal and re welding of support mount on suspension - good £300 - £400 - they can't weld under the car without removing all the fuel - hence the cost goes up -

The welding will be the most expensive part and you are best off getting a quote for that.

You don't say what car it is but the brakes shouldn't be to pricey. If you can let us know the make, model and year someone should be able to give you a reasonable ballpark figure for parts and how long the job may take.

Frankly, it's dangerous.

The brakes should be relatively simple to fix, but the corrosion (i.e.rust) is bad news. The problem is, if the bit the tester has to inspect is bad, you can bet you've got it elsewhere too and if it were possible to fix it enough for the MoT now, you'll soon have problems again.
I'd suggest going to a repair garage and asking for an estimate, but be prepared to scrap it if it looks too much.

Actually I dont think its as bad as it sounds, couple of new brake shoes and possible drums (assuming its drum brakes on rear). It depends on what and how badly the mount is corroded. I'd price that up at local welder first, if its reasonable, the brakes are roughly £50+fitting if it needs drums, less if not. That of course depends on type of car.

I agree with Zippy on this one hunny. It's going to cost hundreds. Why not save the money and use it as a deposit on a nice little brand new run around.
The Perodua Kelisa is a fab budget car costing around £5,000 brand new. There's the Suzuki Alto around the same price.
For a little outlay you could end up with a lovely brand new car.

Not going to cost much, sounds like its needs welding doing on suspension plate, and new adjusters or new cable on parking brake, phone them and ask the cost to do the job.good luck

Scrap it - the brakes are easy enough to fix - but the corrosion is another word for rust - which it MAY be able to fix by welding - but more often than not - it can't.
