Hi all; one of my friend is suffering from a rare disease called fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva(FOP) which was earllier known as myositis ossificans progressiva. This disease causes muscles and other connective tissue to turn into bone, eventually causing immobility as FOP bone fuses joints. It can be said this disease is a very advanced level arthritis/myositis ossificans. Does anybody have ever heard about it? Also can anybody suggest any homeopathic/unani/ayurveda or alloepathic doctor who may help in this case? Since arthritis have treatment in homeopathic/unani/ayurveda, I beleive they might have solution to this also. Please give me the contact details of the doctor if you know any.If anybody want I can write the full detail of patient and also of the disease.Thank you so much, regards, nirupama.

If scientists couldn't find the malfunctioning gene to "turn it off," then perhaps they could find a way to counteract the BMP and stop the production of new bone. They realized that bone cells need blood to form, and tiny new blood vessels form around a place where bone is growing. If the new blood vessels could be prevented from forming, the new bone couldn't develop.

Several medications are being tested for their ability to slow or stop blood vessel formation during bone growth in FOP, including thalidomide, squalamine, and Cox-2 inhibitors.

In addition, a protein called noggin has been found to interfere with bone growth caused by BMP. Researchers are working on using gene therapy to increase noggin production in people with FOP.

Where is your friend located? I have heard of a similar case, but the patient is under allopahic treatment for removal of calcium deposits at various places, almost similar to ossification. Homeopathy and Reiki plus Spiritual Healing may help her/him. I am in Hyderabad, India and let me be frank. I have not handled such cases earlier.
