on both computers, make sure the Workgroup and subnet are the same.

Right click My Computer
Select Properties
Select Computer Name
Check Workgroup of both computers

Start>Run> type "cmd"> press OK
type ipconfig
check ip address of other computer and check subnet mask of both computers. they should be same

On the other computer, right click on the folder you want to access files from and enable sharing.

On your computer, start>Run> type "\\x.x.x.x" (x.x.x.x = ip address of the other computer)> press OK

A window will open with the share folders of the other computer.

i can't go into all the details right now for i am heading out the door for work but make sure they are both set up on the same network and make sure you have them set to file sharing. this is not a fun process to get all the bugs out of this type of stuff but if you keep tinkering with it then eventually it will work out

You can use some softwares to access another computer on a network, Remote Desktop and VNC are 2 of them, if you are using Remote Desktop you must enable it on your system and also the target system, the type the targets IP ads. and connect to it. if you want to use VNC you have to install its server on target system and viewer on your system and then by typing target ip ads. and pass(if it is set)you can control target system. if you want to use files you have to share them on target(properties/sharing and security/share this folder) then use it in ur system.
