Excersing during pregnancy is infact good but after 5 months or as advised by your doctor. Strenous exercises should be avoided. Walking is preferable. However your weight gain after ur delivery depends on your family history. have a check on diet particularly during the last 11/2 months.
The average increase in weight is 12 - 16 kgs. It can be easily shed immediately by exercises.

I'm the same way. I fought for a year & lost a LOT of weight. I'm now 20 wks preg. & starting the weight gain pretty regularly.
I go to the gym 3-4 times a week. I meet w/ my trainer 2 days & take a step & boot camp class on the others.
The keys are to not get your heart rate up over (around) 140, not to do abs on your back - Use the roman chair or a ball, & to tone it down in general. Don't do heavy lifting, hard cardio, or anything that tires you out to quickly. Also, make sure you drink PLENTY of water.
Before you do this, make sure your Dr. is cool w/ you continuing to work out. I had to stop 1 day because I didn't gain enough in the beginning but NOW...WATCH OUT.... :)

I've continued my normal exercise regimen all the way through my pregnancy with no problems.
I go to the gym every day. I use the elyptical trainer for 30 minutes, the rower for 10 minutes, and then lift light weights. I have reduced the heaviness of the weights because I noticed that straining was increasing my crampiness at night.
My doctor has endorsed my workout routine, so I know it's perfectly safe.
Just as an aside, though. Don't expect to put on weight only in your belly. I had the same wish as you, but the truth is that everyone puts on weight elsewhere too. I was very depressed when I saw how much weight I put on in my butt and thighs, until I realized that EVERYONE puts on weight beyond their bellies.

YES! I did, and it helped me stay in shape so that afterwards, I was able to heal up very quickly. It also helped me with childbirth-I was in great shape and I shocked every one by only pushing about four times to get my daughter out!
When I got preggers, I was weight training, walking three miles a day, and taking cardio 2x weekly. I had to stop lifting progressive sets and just maintain, some things I could not do towards then end. I kept the walking up, though towards the end of the pregnancy, I allowed myself to slow it down a bit. I gave up the cardio about five months into it because it made me nervous. Talk to your OBGYN-he/she can advise you.
There are also a great many pregnancy workouts on video and dvd. Go for it! The healthier you are, the healthier your baby will be!
Good luck!

The rule of thumb is if you did it before you were pregnant, you can do it now in terms of moderate exercise such as jogging or aerobics etc. You are not advised to start however if you did not do it before, and you don't want to do anything strenuous such as weight lifting or heavy running.
Also, walking is fine and a great way to keep weight off. The best thing I have found is walking and watching what you eat. As long as your careful what you eat you should be fine.

YMCA has prenatal yoga. It helps alot with relaxing tense muscles in the back, and help with flexibility. I work out at the Y, and I have noticed many women at their time of the month go to prenatal yoga just to move around without doing vigiorous excercise.

As long as your doctor is OK with it, than you can still exercize. You'll have to modify it as you move on in your pregnancy. You need to keep your heart rate below 140 and you want to make sure you can carry on a conversations (comfortably) while you are exercizing.
