i am working as a nite manager and needed day job so was hired by another resturant to be waitstaff, my nite boss said i can not do this and i need to decide on which job i want. i only work 18 hours at the parttime nite job and cannot get day hours because i was hired for the nites, so i went out and found a day job waiting on tables and now i am being told i need to choose between the two? i dont understand i have a perfect attendence and spotless job record at my nite possition, i am basically being asked to choose between struggling to make bills ar 18 hours a week or doing some extra to see we are taken care of. some say find full time employment and get on but i have tried and none to be found so i am willing to juggle my new day schedule so my nites are not in jeporody. can they do this to me? i worked as a nite manager for 3 years.

These restaurants are in competition ? Sit down and calmly talk to the owner who threatened you about this, tell her the circumstances.

This sort of thing is very common on the service industry.
They like to call it a 'conflicting interest' and try to get you to leave one of the jobs. Basically what they are afraid of is that you will take information from your present job (sales, recipes, things like that), and pass it on to your new place. They never realize that most of that stuff wouldn't matter anyway. However, they can eventually fire you for this, if they decide to push it. I've seen people who have cooked at a place for over 5 years be fired immediately for helping out one night at another restaurant, and they had no recourse.
I know this isn't helping, but, that's the way it is. Much luck to you.

It's a conflict of interests. You can't get a job working for Pepsi and then go work part-time for their competitors Coca~Cola. Good luck in finding another job.

hes an ***, there shouldn't b any reason why you cant do both. Try asking him his reason why hes told you that and try to solve it that way. as long as neither job interferes with one another there shouldn't be a problem, other wise take the one that pays more. theres always other jobs out there!
