Have a whirlpool side by side, ice and h2o in door. Water pooling and freezing in bottom Freezer. Thoughts?

If the thin ice layer is not cleaned up, it builds upand water then begins leaking out the bottom of the freezer door on to the floor. Of course this is a fairly slow process. Seems as if the freezing/water source is from the freezer coils or what ever is behind the metal cover in the back of the freezer compartment. There is ice at the base of that cover. What would cause this?
