Well Don Bradman was regarded as the greatest batsman ever and today's superstars like Richie Beniot and Tony Greig and Ian Chappel consider Don Bradman as the greatest they ever saw.

The truth is that Don Bradman is the best in his time, but in today's generation it's very hard to say. Example: filding= in today's game filding is very important and you'll see it when fielders like Johnty Rodes, Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds are all great fielders.

Well lets put the best bowlers in the same table.

- Dennis Lillie (regarded as THE BEST fast bowler ever)
- Shane Warne (regarded as the BEST leg-spin bowler ever and maybe the best bowler ever)
- Michael Holding (one of the best fast bowlers)
- Jeff Thompson (regarded as one of the fastest bowlers ever)

also in todays game there are great fielders.

So if Don Bradman faced against bowlers like Dennis Lillie, Shane Warne, Jeff Thompson and Michael Holding i think his avergae would be so high as 99, but he would still do very well because his a great batsman. I think he would get out more then he did if he face these great bowlers. I think his avergae would be around 60-65. As great as Bradman is these bowlers and fielders are also great. And in the Bradman era these not really great fast bowlers like Dennis Lillie or Michael Holding or Shane Warne.

Bradman was good there is no denying that. But lets face it the overall quality of the game has improved a lot.

The game is on a different level now and much has changed.

Consider this that when cricket started, fielding was not important at all. Fielders did not run at full speed after balls and didnt take as athletic catches as they do nowadays.

I dont think that there was any bowlers back then that had the speed of Brett Lee or Shoaib Akthar, nor the accuracy of Shaun Pollock or Glenn McGrath.

The balls they used did not travel as fast as they do today, because the leather was not sophisticated as it is today.

And remember there are thousands of more people that play cricket today than there was back then. The competitiveness has had a major increase.

But congratulations to Don Bradman for dominating his time. He truly was a great. However I don't think he would dominate so much if he was a player now.

His career average is SO far ahead of even the guy with the second best all time average..and remember they played far fewer matches back then...that there is no question at all that he is the greatest batsman ever.

Possibly even the greatest sportsman in ANY sport, because no-one anywhere in any sport dominates his own sport's statistics the way Bradman does.

flawed question- like all the supposed best evers are only best ever in their era. Put the likes of the don against todays bowlers when he was in his prime, chances are he would hold something like the prestige that punter holds today.

remember he had a fornominal eye for the flight and turn of the ball so that in mind he would have done well on the much flatter and consistant pitches of today.

His down fall and that of his average by todays terms would be the sheer amount of games played.

anyway thats my thoughts

Bradman faced equally good bowlers on uncovered wickets, an antique bat and without helmets or decent protective gear. His batting average is yet miles ahead of the rest. Comparisons are unfair, but yes, he was the best of all time.
