The proper way to hold a wine glass is at the stem. When you cup the bottom of the glass with your hand, it makes the wine warm.

The stem is not the way despite most of your answers. In fact the newest wine glasses dont have stems! Plus the slight warming effect of a few fingers can only help a refrigerated wine which shouldnever be served icy cold anyway. It's hard to taste that way.

Depending on your wine glass. The most normal way is to hold the stem of the glass. Do not hold the bottom of the wine glass like holding a brandy glass. It will warm up the wine.

particularly easily everyone the following is faulty! only kidding, yet in reality, even as truly attempting to flavor wine properly, in reality about 1 / 4 of a pitcher or a lot less is all you want to pour at a time. this enables you to swirl the wine aggressively to unencumber its aroma. Even 1/2 an finished glass is only too a lot to attempt this. maximum professional wine glasses are truly large (like the Riedel Sommelier sequence of handblown glass) so even a fairly finished glass is truly truly some wine. In eating places, if i visit order wine by technique of the glass, which I not often do, i visit usually ask for a separate glass once they carry about the crammed up glass. That way i visit pour some into the different glass somewhat at a time.

The proper way is by the stem so the heat of your hand does not warm your wine.

For red wine, hold the bowl in your hand. Your body heat brings out the aromatics. For white wines and champagnes, hold the stem so the wine stays cool for as long as possible

You hold it by the stem. That way body heat will not transfer from your hand to the glass and subsequently, the wine...especially if its a chilled wine like a white Zin or Chardonnay.

I hold mine by the stem when I'm with company, otherwise I just hold near the rim. Now, if you want a testimonial, I've met the Mondavi family during a barrel tasting, and they all held their reds by the stem or the lower part of the "bowl".
