must have/be....

1. only piano, bass and drums ( no horns or guitar )
2. recorded 1990 or later
3. no vocals
4. type of jazz that could be (ussually?) played in nightclubs, but is not totally watered down.

Also, what type of jazz do you call this?

You'll probably have to find somebody knowledgable at your local store. Check out Mulgrew Miller for one. Jazz musicians tend to think of themselves as just that, and resist being sub-categorized by the marketing people. I understand your position, though. I live a long way from the nearest jazz club, and my Amahd Jamal CD's get a good workout.

I can only think of one musician right now. Robert Glasper is a piano player out of Atlanta. I saw him in a quintet once. He was really good. His solos were fantastic. He has at least one trio album out. I haven't heard it, but I'm sure it's good, and definitly not watered down.

If I remember more recent trio albums, I'll add them to this answer.
