Now that's a question that's bound to raise arguements. Most will say C++ but it's certainly not the "best". It's easy, sure, but it's not as highly structured or rigorous as programming languages such as Ada.

My personal preference is Delphi but it's not the best either.

What do you mean by best? Best at ease of use, best structure, best availability, best price...?

It depends of what you are looking for in a programming languaje.
If you are a web developer, and wants to have easy programming languaje, if you are developing software or you will need more people to develop or mantain your software, maybe you have to use some very easy to use and comercial software as anything with Microsoft dot NET, VB or C# and ASP. net.

If you are willing to contract with some big corporation, it migth be good for you to work with some tool specialized for the mos comercial ERP's that would be Oracle Aplications, where you would use Oracle Developer, Forms, Reports, Discoverer. Or ABAP for SAP.

There are no best. It depends on what you want to do. I mostly use Java, C#, PHP, VB (.net or otherwise), JavaScript, PL/SQL, and a smattering of Perl (ugh) and some specialty languages.

Look at the problem, look at your personal toolbox, and choose.
