Upon looking at a map of the US, there is a huge area from Idaho to North Dakota and between Canada and Colorado that have no teams even close.
Are these areas just so remote and lacking population or are there other reasons?

As a side bar, do you think we will ever see an NFL team in Canada, say in Toronto, Montreal or Calgary?

Its actually not because they are to remote, yes that plays a part in it but thier is just no need for more teams, and if we are going to add teams we would need to add on team to each of the divisions. And being that toronto is a populated area,it is possable to have a team there, you would just need to find one willing to move,or when you add the teams, find one willing to be placed there

It takes a huge fan base to support a pro football team. There just aren't that many large cities up north. Don't use Green Bay as an example because they are the exception to the rule. Those people LIVE for the team and have proven that they will support the Pack.
Before the Colts moved to Indianapolis, the city was always saying the same thing. Even though Indy is something like the 12th or 13th largest city they had no team. It's a hot ticket item and owners want big bucks in return. Indy is building a huge new stadium for the Colts to keep them here.
As a perennial site of the NCAA Tournament and assorted other sports events Indy proved they could do it. It takes a long track record of success before any team will even think of giving you a chance.

The CFL has an understanding with the NFL that they will not poach each other's turf. If it wasn't for the CFL, the NFL would probably have to spend money on it's own development league(s) just like the other major sports.
Asides from the NFL wanting the CFL to thrive, even the Toronto Skydome or BC Place would be inadequate for a NFL expansion team. It would be politically impossible for any level of government in Canada to finance a stadium for the benefit of a "foreign" pro sports league. That means anyone who wanted a CFL team in Canada would need a billion or so to build a stadium, and a billion or so for the franchise fee. It just ain't gonna happen.

The next NFL team, I am sorry to say will more than likely be in LA. "Arnold" is pushing hard for the next expanson team to be there. There are northern teams but they are mostly northeastern. It takes alot to support a NFL team. The League will not even consider expanding to a new market without a new state-of-the-art stadium, huge fan support, and enough $$$ given by the local government to attract attention. As for a team in Canada, I doubt we will see that any time soon. Most players will not want to go there because of the high tax. I remember many NBA players complaining about that when their league expanded into Canada.

there is no life out there so that is why no team has been established...almost all this area is filled with small towns, an NFL town is settled with population of at least 1 million.... The NFL would not gamble on setting a team in Canada. Canadians are so raw that they would not realize the importance of the NFL.

Lives in North Dakota. There are no large metropolitan hubs in the areas you mention. The biggest cities are only in the 100,000+ range. As far as a Canadian team I think someday there will be a NFL team possibly in a Toronto or a Quebec.

Numbers. Areas with small populations don't have and can't generate enough revenue to support a major franchise. Stick with the college teams in the smaller areas.

The towns and small cities in those areas are not even close to support a NFL team.

The reason there are no NFL teams up in direction is, there is no money to be made. Owners want to made there millions from the games, so they can pay for the top players in the league and to make money off those players!

The cities likely can't afford a franchise. Thery probably don't have stadiums and won't build them. As to Canada they likely won't ever have a team. They have the CFL for one thing. The league is getting, or just is, too big for another.
