I do both......some people swear by all inclusive but sometimes I like to take up the culture of the food and experiencing different places, I guess you could say it's personal preference....

For some people, this comes down to price, for others, it comes down to convenience.
Large families with children find All Inclusive is probably their best option, as they have no worries about cleaning up the youngsters, rounding up the gang and finding a restaurant to go to. For others, the thought of feeling trapped at a hotel and eating buffet food three times a day for a week is not their cup of tea. This is not about which plan is better, it's about which plan is better for your vacation.

Also take into consideration, many hotels have specials for All Inclusive that is only a few dollars per person more than European Plan. In this case, you can have the best of both worlds; convenient food and drinks at the hotel when you want them and the option of going out for dinners and nightlife without feeling you are losing money.

Have fun!

I think Al-Inclusive is a great way to go. All meals and drinks are included and you don't have to worry about how much money to bring. Cancun is not cheap, drinks and dinner out in the nice restaurant can cost you 80-100 dollars. We have done it both ways and we now do al-inclusive in Cancun. You have to factor in transportation to the restaurant and 15%-20% tip on top of the dinner.
If you are the type of person that likes to dine around and try different restaurants than I suggest you find a different resort.

Have fun and put the wallet in the safe and enjoy.

I stay at the Park Royal Piramides (an all-inclusive). I love it. Just sitting around the pool and drinking all the drinks, plus breakfast buffet and dinner and snacks in the middle of the day, you can get your monies worth. It is a timeshare and the cost is $59 per person, (that was a few years ago), but I would do it again. Don't be afraid to go out, if you have a favorite restaurant. We love Lorenzillo's, and will always make it over to there.

The all inclusive resorts are so worth it. You don't have to carry a lot of cash around so you can just relax and enjoy yourselves. You are not required to tip but you really should. The employees at the resorts work their butts off and the US dollar goes far. Bring a lot of us $1.00 bills for tips. Bellhops/drivers $1.00 a bag. $1.00 a drink, $2.00 day for house keeping and $1 - $2 for nightly turndown service, $2 per person at meals. The help will recognize you and give you that little extra attention.

AI's are a great invention for places where all you are really after is sun, sand, and tranquility. And if that's what you want, travel down the coast from Cancun about an hour (to Del Carmen and such) and you'll find it - in spades.

That being said - buying an AI is like committing to eating and drinking at the same 3 bar/restaraunts for an entire week, and this is Cancun we're talkinging about. Would you go to New York City and eat and drink in the same 3 bar/restaraunts for your entire vacation?

Cancun is sun, sand, and FUN - and if you don't get out in it, you might as well be in Fiji.

all inclusive is NOT a rip off. you made the best choice, we stayed at the oasis palms, it was well worth it, it was not direct ocean front, (its on the north side of hotel hwy), and the wind was not a factor.

all inclusive pkgs are the bomb! all you can drink for free and all you can eat for free...what else can u ask for? just stay inside the hotel when u eat...outside maybe more pricey.
