Why do people here shout "Grow up" to people - who's points of view they disagree with?

Isn't this actually one of the most childish phrases on the planet (last heard -when I was a kid in the eigthies by spoilt fairly ugly ickle girlies in the classroom) - who have never - to this day actually "grown up" - or if they have, offer no way of life anyone here would wish to "Grow Up" too?

Particularly annoying - when it is followed or preceeded by no arguements, logic or reason - and is just used for the "debater" to just make some kind of irrellevant pointless stupid noise?

Is "grow up" the only arguement left for the Iraq war and the right?

Is this phrase actually supposed to convince people to take up a religion, fight and die for they're county - vote conservative or marry ugly chicks or work for 3dollars a hour?

(as a chap who spent years in the substance misuse industry - a fairly adult and professional area - I still have no idea what the hell it means).

I've gotten that response by asking perfectly intelligent, yet thought-provoking and nerve-striking questions. I do that on here a lot to spark debate. I take that particular response as a person's inability to debate a position they can't defend--or aren't intelligent enough to defend. Basically, it's a cop-out answer unless the question is some 12 year-old mentality potty humor.

Here is an example of a question I asked in which one of the answerers told me to grow up (the rhetoric went right over his head and did not support his agenda). http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmpnYYWDbJMVnPi8aUy7TiXsy6IX?qid=20070303043722AA6oPbG

Not all of us Conservatives use that phrase. I will use it when needed, but mostly when the "other" person has made a statement that would usually come from the mouth of a child. Or leaves no room for a second opinion.
I will say to you that your opinion is valid and I agree with you. If you are going to mud sling, then at least put your argument out there, to back your statement up.

When I say grow up to people it's because they have the outlook of CHILDREN. Not looking at the big picture before coming to a solution. Or just being immature jerks.

Hmmm...substance misuse "industry" doesn't sit too easily with me. This is not to criticize you personally in any way. Everything's a ******* industry, it seems to me...

i think they're trying to say that the person is misinformed, ignorant, naive or more likely being immature by deliberately trying to get a reaction (usually anger/shock)

you can only argue the issues so many ways, at which point rhetorical questions are irritable and annoying.
