did it evolve that way because it was necesary, or better than worms that dont need to pick a fixed gender?

actually, some organisms are asexual while someare hermaphroditic.

But sexual reproduction causes diversity by mixing genes instead of just copying all characteristics. This diversity makes it possible for traits that are useful in certain conditions to be shared among different members of a population. It could also be a source of genetic mutation that could arise into new traits. This increases the chance for the survival of the species.

The man and woman dichotomy is just a reflection of this mechanism of nature. That is to say that organisms developed tools like sexual organs to implement this strategy.

Also hermaphrodites have crossing-over of the genetic material. That is not the reason of difference between males and females. I think the reason is specialization - females are specialized to accumulate energy to have the greatest possible number of the high quality offspring, males to spread widely to fertilize more females than the other males.

There are more possibilities of multiplication in number;
Dead things can be substituted by the new offsprings.
you can be able to distinguish and classify them inorder for easy identification.
For protection as they are working as one.
To keep company for one another inorder to avoid boredom/loneliness.
For co-existance

Its way more fun and interesting the way we have it than if we just all were one sex and we layed eggs or whatever.
