They are male and female fish, cos the egg did hatch once. The ten over flies were gone in three days. After that the eggs laid did not hatch.

Sometimes two females will actually pair up and go through the motions of spawning just like a male and female would. Obviously, since there would not be any sperm (milt) from a male involved, the eggs will be infertile and will not develop.

You may have two females instead of a male and a female. Discus, like angelfish, are very hard to sex. Only someone with a great deal of experience breeding discus would be able to tell for sure.

You may also have an infertile male, possible, but unlikely.

Since you know you have a female, go online and search "male discus." You will get a bunch of sites that sell discus. Email them and ask specifically if you can get a male. It may cost you a bit, but you will make it up later as you sell the spawns to pet shops in your area.

Good luck!

i agree with the last comment. it could be two females, have a look at their breeding papilla the males point forward and are smaller than the females which are short and blunt. but discus have a habit of not getting it right if they are a young pair, leave them be and see what happens in the coming months. good luck
