The tympanic membrane (ear drum) is extremely sensitive. Hopefully, they will sedate you for this procedure and you will feel nothing. If they only give a local (an injection into the ear) this is painful (I have had it done), but afterward you will feel very little.
Make your wishes known to the doctor!!

Short Answer: It would be unbearable without anesthesia

Not at all. They are going to put you under anesthesia and you wont remember the surgery. When you wake up, you may have mild discomfort, but the doctor can inform you about what you should take for that. Good luck to you.

Have a in depth discussion with the doctor who will preform the surgery.

He is the best person to ask.

No.

Everything that is done will be done under anesthesia.

You will not be able to swim or get water in it for a long time though.

What kind of doctor-patient relationship do you have if you have no idea what is going to be done to you? One of you seems not to care. If it is the doctor, then you need another one. If it is you, well....
