May sound obvious, but you can't tell. For example, Sylvia Plath wrote that all women loved a boot in the face (a Nazi).

Some people responded that hate was rooted in self-love. Not exactly.

Before you can love others, you have to learn to love yourself. Ideally, you are satisfied with who you are, what you are, and your physical body.

From what I've experienced here at Yahoo Answers, specifically in the Politics section, I think that hatred toward other people - face to face or virtual - is connected to a lack of something in your life.

I can't say exactly what is "lacking." That would involve a study of abnormal psychology. But I think that those who are "driven" to poke sticks at other people - or those that find some twisted sense of "entertainment" in aggravation or aggression - lack something in their life.

Just my theory...

If a woman has known nothing but verbal and physical abuse all her life then, yes, she may feel secure in that environment and be suspicious if a man pays her a compliment.

However, most women would hate a 'grunt', a man who thinks that it's her job to do everything in the house - as well as working full time usually, but berates her about everything she does. A grunt normally has very little respect for anyone except his boozing pals and has questionable personal hygiene.

His idea of support is to give the little lady a wack to keep her motivated incase her attention wanders and she passes a glance at his television. His idea of giving her a rest is to disappear for hours - maybe days - on end but woe betide her if she asks if she can go out with friends - first of all, how has she had the time to make friends.

I've known men like this. One goes home from work and either gets the playstation out or goes straight to the pub. He claims not to know where the hoover is. I told him he'd learn pretty quickly if he lived with me because I wouldn't do a thing for him until he did.

There absolutely isn't one because, of course, not all women are the same. Sorry to be glib but I genuinely think that's the bottom line.

A man who is mentally and/or physically abusive. A man who is selfish and/or arrogant. A man who lacks compassion and/or love for others. A man who lies.
