have you checked to see whether or not your sound is inadvertently muted. Check the controls in media player and make sure that the volume is up and on. If this doesn't work... do you have any external volume buttons on your laptop. Ensure that the volume is on from those and not muted. The last place that you should check is... Start Button > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control. From here make sure that the system sound is not muted and that the volume is up. Hope these 3 suggestions help.

Read your user's manual. There is often a Function key PLUS one other key to press to turn Audio on.
If audio is already turned on and the volume isn't too low or muted, it's very possible that the media file you are trying to play is corrupted, try downloading it again.

it my be muted or click the icon on the bottom right of windows that looks like a speaker and turn up the volume

....but what about other application ?? like winamp...if it happen to other application, maybe you have problem with your driver...
