You could do an American Girl. They're about right for 3rd-6th graders. Kit and Molly shouldn't be hard to do, since there are still a lot of clothes that look like theirs.
Kit: Pink short-sleeve sweater and cardigan, green double-diamond barrette, flowered knee-length skirt, white Mary Janes or formal sandals
Molly: Red & green vest over long sleeve navy-blue sweater, rounded rim glasses, knee-length navy skirt, black Mary Janes, two braids with little red bows
It would be a lot easier to do someone from a modern novel than doing one from Little Women or Lord of the Rings or something like that. Real life, modern time.

It depends on your personality and fashion look. If you're a girlie-girl type dress as Alice in Wonderland, or Little Bo Peep. If you're more the butch type try Peter Pan, if you're eccentric try Pippi Longstocking.
